Bills "Dada" lecture - 10/15

Dada began in WW1 and was mostly a protest against war, society, and old social ways.
Dada work usually consisted of appropriation, assemblage, construction, conceptual art, and chance. There were also a few videos that Bill showed to us, not to sure where those would fall.

Main Dada artists whose work was discussed...
Jean App
Hugo Ball
Kurt Schwitters

10/29 - 'thats pretty good for a girl' lecture

Movement consisting of female artists setting themselves apart...
women thought they were being minimized.

1. essentials and identities
personal, the body, sexuality, vaginal iconography, female attributes.
2. material / techniques
3. activist.
performance, and sisterhood.
4. distinguished art of men/women.

we also watched an interesting video where a group of female artists took over a house, and did installation work along with performances throughout the house expressing various things such as situations and feelings that only women can experience, along with the responsibilities.

Color/texture books

This is another project that once it was over, I had tons to work with... I ended up making two seperate accordian books with two different schemes, and a "swatch book" to go with each one that matched the same scheme.
